Do you suffer from chronic headaches, especially in the morning? Do your face muscles ache, feel tight, or radiate pain down into your neck? Does your jaw pop or click?  Does your pain interfere with the quality of your daily life? You may have TMJ.

The doctors at Wainright and Wassel offers comprehensive bite analysis and personalized treatment plans to address the underlying causes of TMJ.

Why do my jaw and face muscles always hurt?

TMD is a chronic pain disorder caused by the misalignment of, or damage to, the jaw joint. The temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, is surrounded in highly packed nerve endings. When damaged, or misaligned, chronic pain, headaches, popping and general discomfort are common.

What causes TMD?

TMD can be caused by a number of factors. Often patients with TMD grind their teeth during their sleep or clench their jaw during times of high stress. Teeth grinding is a repetitive motion that puts a large amount of stress of the jaw joint and surrounding muscles.

Misaligned bites or crooked teeth can also damage the jaw joint. Malocclusion issues are common in patients with TMD. Realigning teeth and the bite can help to alleviate tension and chronic pain symptoms and improve the health of the teeth and gums.
